Why Do Humanists Reject The Bible?

Is it because there are contradictions in the Bible?

"The Bible is an unreliable authority because it contains numerous contradictions. Logically, if two statements are contradictory, at least one of them is false. The biblical contradictions therefore prove that the book has many false statements and is not infallible." - from the American Humanists web site

Answering Humanist AccusationsThis section of our web site answers over 180 accusations against the Bible. These web pages are the first draft of the book... Did God Really Say?. Get your copy today. It's now available on Amazon.

There is no good reason to reject the Bible. Every objection, contradiction and question has been answered hundreds of times... and in many cases they were answered well over a 1000 years ago. But humanists refuse to even consider that their questions have been answered, and continually bring up the same old "contradictions" over and over.

The issue is not one of demonstrating the Bible is reliable. That's been done many times. The issue is a heart issue.

Those who reject the Bible are not doing so for any rational reason. They simply do so because they don't want it to be true. They don't want to be accountable to God. The humanist web page we're looking at isn't there to convince others the Bible isn't reliable, but to give comfort to atheists who don't want anyone to disturb their delusion. As scripture says, they are willingly blind, so they don't even question the flimsy asccusations and unsubstantiated claims on the web page we are examining.

The Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.- John 3:19

If humanists wanted to truly demonstrate there are contradictions in the Bible, they would state the contradiction, and then give the Biblical response that refutes it (not strawman responses), and then refute that response -- if they could (they can't). But, I've never seen that type of a scholarly, sound approach to discussing the Bible. Humanists seem to like to do "hit and run," such as the web page we'll be looking at, often without even fully explaining their supposed contradictions.

Here is a link to the web page we'll be examing. We looked at the humanist web page during December 2017, and the following responses are based on their web page as it was at that time.

The Bible stands as God's truth.

To show that the contradictions, objections, and questions humanists have raised about the Bible are non-existent or have been answered, I will answer every accusation and claim from the article"Some Reasons Why Humanists Reject The Bible" on the American Humanist web site. I have to admit that I find this to be fun. It demonstrates how wonderful it is to be a Christian... and that we have the answers. Not only to objections raised by humanists, but to life's greatest problems. Jesus Christ is THE answer.

Questions about ChristianityAnswers to Bible "contradictions" and questions raised by humanists:

The following is a topical index in the order of the accusations and claims on the humanist's web site. Click here for a scripture index.

If you've read all of the above answers to supposed contradictions, I hope you are starting to see that the claim that these are "contradictions" is ridiculous. If the humanist who made the list had done just a little research, they'd have had the answers. But, I've found that most humanists are not interested in answers. All they want to do is to attack God and the Bible. It does not matter whether or not their attack actually has any truth to it.

On each page the quotes from the American Humanist web site are shown in blue. As you read them notice how they are worded. Many of them use emotion-packed words used to lead you to unsupported, and unbiblical conclusions.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? - Jeremiah 17:9 (In other words, don't trust your emotions.)

Christianity is a rational, know-ledge-based, logical worldview. Notice that in the contradictions and other objections raised by the humanists, their appeal -- in particular their word choice -- is often to your emotions.

I challenge you... if you are a humanist... be honest. Actually seek after truth instead of seeking the destruction of God.

You cannot destroy or kill God. That's a losing battle. So be honest with yourself and seek truth... the whole truth.

Let's continue...

Humanist Starved Ukrainians

The Holodomor: Stalin (a humanist), following humanists principles and morality, intentionally starved to death millions of Ukrainians. They literally were dying in the street. - Alexander Wienerberger photo

We're still going through the accusations from a single American Humanist web page. The page we're looking at is titled "Some Reasons Why Humanists Reject The Bible." Sometimes I start thinking that, these accusartions are so easy to refute, that maybe the humanists are hoping to overwhelm people with just shear volume. Maybe, they are thinking that, people will see so much misinformation about the Bible, that they won't even read it all. Readers will just assume at least some of it is true, and accept the premise that the Bible should be rejected.

Don't be fooled. Humanists can't change reality with a web page. Denying God does not make Him go away. Attacking the Bible doesn't make the attacks true. Humanists, Muslims, Buddhists... everyone will die once and then face the judgment of God. And we are all guilty. The only one who can save you from the judgment is Jesus Christ...

You are guilty, but on the cross Jesus Christ paid the just penalty for sin (disobeying God) that you've earned. Accept His free gift. Trust that Jesus did truly pay your penalty for sin IN FULL.

Let's continue...

It took over 75 web pages to address the humanists claims and accusations against the Bible. I've looked at every claim on their web page, and every one has been found to be untrue. They have not been able to show the Bible has error, or that science is superior to the Bible. The opposite has been demonstrated... following the teachings of the Bible (in other words obeying God), leads to a healthier, better life.

We're just a small church on the North Oregon coast, with very limited resources. Yet, it was fairly simple to refute every humanist claim and accusation. They literally have nothing to stand on, except wishful thinking. And their wish is that God does not exist, and that they will not be held accountantable by their creator. But, wishful thinking does not change reality.

  • God is real. He exists.

  • God created you in His image. That makes you very special.

  • Since He created you, He gets to make the rules.

  • You've broken those rules, and there are consequences... total separation from God... and that is hell, because without God there is NOTHING good. Nothing.

  • Only Jesus can save you from those consequences. Repent today. Turn to Jesus. Trust Jesus to save you from the just consequences for disobeying God.

But for the cowardly* and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. - Revelation 21:8

* The "cowardly" are those who are afraid to turn to Jesus. Maybe afraid of what their friends will think. Maybe afraid that thery'll have to give up doing something they love. In some cases afraid that they are not good enough. Don't be afraid. Embrace the love of Jesus Christ and He will save you.
